I don’t know of any stores/guides because I often take myself, but here is what I know.
First, there is a creek in downtown Anchorage called Ship Creek. People fish for Kings there. Rabbit Slough (north of Anchorage) is good for silvers. And the Russian River on the Kenia Peninsula is good for Reds, the second run of salmon is in now, so I don’t know how your luck will be…. The Russian usually has lots of people (sorry can’t tell you about my honey hole).
Check the regulations WHEREVER you go….they change daily, and sometimes you can only fish certain spots on certain days of the week. Also, bait is different at every location so check and double check the regulations. You can pick them up from any grocery store.
For transportation check out affordablebeaters.com
My family says the have good rates.
Also check peoplemover.org it is the local bus here in town.
All hotels charge a bed tax during tourism season so they are super pricey. Anchorage has a hostel downtown (I have never stayed there) And Girdwood (30 miles south of Anchorage) has a very nice hostel. Since it is a ski community, I imagine it would be empty.
Gear to bring
Bug repellent (lots)
rain gear
